Nonostante il mio viaggio in Giordania sia stato pieno di interessanti escursioni e visite a luoghi particolari, quello per cui vale veramente la pena partire è senza dubbio il sito archeologico di Petra.
Arrivati all’ingresso del sito, si può scegliere se procedere a piedi, a cavallo o in calesse. Il percorso per raggiungere la tomba principale è affascinante almeno quanto la tomba stessa: 2 chilometri di passeggiata lungo una naturale e strettissima fenditura di una montagna rossa! Quando stavamo camminando attraverso questa meravigliosa gola già da un po’, la guida ha attirato la nostra attenzione mostrandoci alcune particolarità della roccia sopra di noi in modo da distrarci per qualche metro. Intanto, a nostra insaputa, ci ha fatto fare qualche passo all’indietro, posizionandoci nel posto migliore per avere la visuale più suggestiva. Non appena siamo tornati con lo sguardo dritto davanti a noi, pronti per proseguire nella (estenuante, anche a causa della temperatura) passeggiata… ci siamo trovati davanti al classico e noto scorcio: da qui abbiamo potuto godere di una vista mozzafiato.

Although my trip in Jordan was full of interesting excursions and tours in wonderful places, the one that is really worth doing above all is the archaeological site of Petra. When you arrive at the entrance of this site, you can choose to continue on foot, on horseback or in a gig. The route to the main grave is almost as spectacular as the grave itself: 2 km along a natural and very narrow path which follows the gorge in the red mountain! While we were walking along this path, the guide drew our attention to some peculiarities of the rocks above us, just to create a diversion for a few meters. In the meanwhile (we were unaware of the reason), he made us step back, placing ourselves in the best spot for the most striking view. As soon as we looked forward, ready to go on walking (it was very exhausting, also because of the heat)… we found ourselves in front of the classic and famous view: from there we had a truly breath-taking sight.

Non pensate che Petra sia solo questa nota tomba! Il sito, infatti, è pieno di tombe (conservate meno bene), ospita un anfiteatro, era sede di un mercato… L’intera area archeologica vi lascerà a bocca aperta.
Nei miei ricordi, quello in Giordania, è stato uno dei viaggi più entusiasmanti della mia vita… vi auguro di provare le stesse emozioni!
Don’t think that in Petra there is only this famous grave! The site, in effect, is full of graves (less well-preserved). There is also an amphiteatre, which was where the market was held … The entire archaeological area will leave you open-mouthed. In my memories, the journey through Jordan has been one of the most exciting of my life… I hope you will feel the same emotions!
