Il nome, in realtà, è The Botanical Club, ma io voglio parlarvi di tutti i locali che fanno parte della grande famiglia Botanical… da qui il titolo.
Il mio amore per questi bar nasce quando mi sono trasferita in Isola e ho scoperto The Botanical Club di Via Pastrengo: seduta al bancone a chiacchierare con i baristi ho imparato a conoscere il loro gin (sì, sono la prima piccola distilleria italiana di gin – Spleen et Idéal, ottimo per altro) e ad apprezzare i loro elaborati cocktail e la loro lista di small bites da ordinare all’aperitivo.
Dopo aver trascorso ore nel piccolo e accogliente locale di Isola, l’apertura del luminosissimo The Botanical Club di Via Tortona: caratterizzato da enormi vetrate e da uno spazioso dehors, di questo nuovo Botanical mi sono innamorata per via dei suoi pokè (di tonno, salmone, polpo, veggie, mix… mi fermo ma potrei andare avanti). Non vi spiego di cosa si tratta, bisogna provarli per capire – credetemi.
Da qualche settimana, il terzo fratellino della grande famiglia è nato: Idéal, in Via Salutati.
Nell’immaginario di Baudelaire l’Idéal rappresenta un luogo edenico ardentemente sognato dall’uomo, nel quale sono eliminate le condizioni che caratterizzano la trappola del reale (Spleen) che l’uomo si trova costretto a vivere: la disarmonia e il tempo.
Questa divagazione non voleva essere una dimostrazione di aver studiato e amato la letteratura francese e i poeti maledetti, assolutamente! Non sono ancora stata all’Idéal ma, se questo piccolo bar riuscisse con la sua atmosfera e i suoi cocktail a far vivere anche solo un microscopica percentuale di quella sensazione tanto osannata da Baudelaire… sono certa che diventerà uno dei miei locali preferiti a Milano.
Se pensate che le novità siano finite qui vi sbagliate di grosso!

The Botanical Club, but I would like to talk to you about all the bars and restaurants that make up the big Botanical family… thus, this is where I derived the title for my article.
My affection for the Botanical bars began once I moved to the Isola district of Milan and discovered The Botanical Club in Via Pastrengo; I was sitting at the bar counter, chatting to one of the bartenders and started to learn about their gins (oh yes, they are the first small gin – Spleen et Idéal, which is, by the way, amazing – distillery in Italy) and began to appreciate their elaborate cocktails and small bites menu to enjoy as a tasty aperitif.
After spending hours in their small, cosy location in Isola, then came the opening of their bright, sparkling location of Via Tortona; the modern design is characterized by huge windows that overlook the spacious outer seating area. I fell in love with the new Botanical because of its delicious pokè’s (tuna, salmon, octopus, veggie, mix… I have to stop here but could continue forever!). I can’t explain exactly what they are, but you’ve got to taste them.. trust me!
Since a few weeks ago, their third little brother was born: Idéal in Via Salutati. In Baudelaire’s imagination, Idéal represents a heavenly place, eagerly dreamt by man, where the conditions that make up the Spleen, the trap of the existence which man is forced to live in, disharmony and time, do not exist.
This reference was not intended for me to demonstrate my studies and passion for French literature. I still haven’t been to Idéal but, if this tiny bar is actually able, through its atmosphere and cocktails, to make you live even a small, microscopic percentage of the emotions Baudelaire expresses so eagerly… I am absolutely certain that it will become one of my favourite spots in Milan.
