Prima d’ora non avevo mai visto un luogo così! Di cosa sto parlando? Della High Line, un parco lungo invece che largo (per l’esattezza: 1,22 km), sopraelevato, che si divincola tra i palazzi del West Village. Non solo: il luogo dove sorge questo meraviglioso parco è quello dove un tempo si trovava la West Side Line, una ferrovia costruita negli anni ’30 e in disuso dal 1980.
Lungo tutto il tragitto oltre a profumatissimi fiori e piante colorate, sono state conservate sezioni di binari inglobate perfettamente all’interno della “passeggiata verde”.
Ciò che più mi ha entusiasmata lungo tutta la camminata, oltre ai fiori, sono stati gli scorci visibili attraverso i palazzi (spero che le mie foto riescano a rendere, almeno un pochino, l’idea!).
A me è capitato di scoprire la High Line per caso e, per questo, ho potuto viverla nella sua semplicità: come una piacevole passeggiata (che già da sola entusiasma!). I had never seen a place like that before! What am I talking about? High Line, a park which is long (1,22 km) and not wide; it is a section of the former elevated West Side Line (a railway built in the 1930s but fallen into disuse by 1980) and winds its way through the buildings in West Village. Along the route and among the perfumed flowers and colourful plants, the rails have been preserved and included in the “greenway”. What I liked most on this walk, apart from the flowers, were the sights you could see between the high rise buildings (I hope my photos give the idea, at least in part!).
I discovered High Line by chance, so I was able to see it in all its simplicity: as a pleasant route to walk along (which in itself is great!). If you ever get to New York, I advise you to visit the official site www.thehighline.org so you can find out what events, fairs and guided tours are available!
